Music Video Production – Concept to Delivery
Temple Freelance & GASP teamed up to work on the Stedman Pearson – Love You More Debut Solo Single.
Stedman Pearson saw huge success in the 80′s as a member of Five Star, who boasted 6 UK top ten hit singles, a number one album and a BRIT Award for best British group. He has recently recorded a new solo album of which ‘Love You More’ is the first single, it will be released on 8th July.
I was first introduced to Stedman about a year ago and have been working with him on various projects including some work for his charity Water for Lifestraw and shooting some scenes for a documentary. When he asked me if I’d be interested in directing the ‘Love You More’ music video, I of course jumped at the chance. The budget & deadline for the video were tight and various broadcasters were waiting for the single from Stedman. I called Glyn Allen from GASP to ask if he would like to take up the role of DOP and set to work on creating a concept and producing initial storyboards.

I went over to the GASP Studios for an initial meeting and creative thrash out of some ideas with Glyn. After a couple of hours of bashing our heads together we had what was to be an initial concept to be given to the artist and the management team. Potential dates were penciled for the shoot, the wait was now on to see if the concept was a go.
Wednesday 2nd May 2012
I travelled down to London to present the ideas to Stedman and his manager Wayne, thankfully they liked the ideas we had put together and the date was set for Saturday 5th of May 2012 at East End Studios in London.

The day of the shoot had finally arrived and it was all hands on deck to make the day work…
Glyn chose to shoot with the Canon 5D mark2 as his mark3 was not being delivered until the Tuesday, bummer… he took three lenses in the bag the 50mm 1.2 prime, 24-70mm 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8 all fast lenses and able to give the look we wanted for the video, although the 50mm was his lens of choice for the majority of the shoot. We also used the Redrock DSLR Cinema / Studio Rig with the 9″ Swit HDSDI / HDMI Monitor and the Glidetrack DSLR 0.5mtr HD Slider.
The day started at 4:30am loading up the kit arriving in London around 7:30am. We scouted the location as it was the first time there for Glyn, finalised the locations for shooting and set our lighting gaffer the task of setting up the main studio area. As soon as everyone had arrived and after the logistics of the day discussed we ploughed on with the shoot. the day was fun and exciting for all and everyone pulled together to make the shoot work and both Glyn and I met some great people. We finally wrapped around 9:30pm and after loading and driving back we arrived home around 1am. In the words of Gordon Ramsey ’19 hour shift…Done’!
Monday 7th May 2012
I spent the whole day making the first cut in Final Cut Pro, I’d asked Glyn to take a look at the colour grading and arranged to meet early with him the following day as we were to present to Stedman that afternoon.
Tuesday 8th May 2012
I arrived early at GASP so we could apply the colour grade Glyn had come up with to the edit and make some tweaks to tighten it all up. Stedman arrived for the first viewing and again we had a great day working together. Once Stedman had finalised the timeline we set to work on condensing the timeline and reapplying the colour grade. The final fused edit was then sent over to the management team and signed off.
